Congratulations to A Better Start’s Successful Learning theme leader, Professor Brigid McNeill, who gave her professorial lecture at the University of Canterbury last month.
Titled The pathway to impact: Effective teaching practices for early literacy success, the lecture covered findings from the implementation of the Better Start Literacy Approach (through the Better Start National Science Challenge and Ministry of Education’s Innovative Foundational Learning Project) and how they will be used to focus on the impact of enhanced early literacy teaching, particularly for children who start school with speech and/or language difficulties.
The talk highlighted the pivotal roles of co-construction, professional learning, inter-professional collaboration, initial teacher education and culturally responsive practice in translating research findings to the classroom setting in a sustainable model.
