WATCH THE WEBINAR HERE

Discover the latest research in child oral health in this webinar hosted by A Better Start National Science Challenge and Whānau Āwhina Plunket.

Children’s oral health is a major issue in NZ, with nearly half of all five year olds showing tooth decay, and rates of 0-to-14-year-olds requiring general anaesthetic for rotten teeth removal on the rise.

This webinar looks at the current state of children’s oral health in NZ, what initiatives the Ministry of Health is undertaking, and how oral health can be addressed in a whānau setting.

Our guest speakers are:

Professor Jonathan Broadbent, a professor of dental public health at the University of Otago, who gives an overview of the epidemiology of oral health in children

Dr Riana Clarke, National Clinical Director, Oral Health, with the Ministry of Health, who discusses the Ministry’s oral health initiatives and their evaluations

Associate Professor Alison Meldrum, Head of Discipline of Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Otago, who looks at recent advances in the prevention and management of dental caries in children.

The webinar is chaired by A Better Start deputy director Professor Barry Taylor and Whānau Āwhina Plunket’s Dr Paul Watson.
