Leading researchers from A Better Start National Science Challenge will present at the 3rd NZ-China Non-Communicable Disease Research Cooperation Forum next month.
The annual forum is to present and discuss research collaborations in area of non-communicable disease (NCD) between the two countries over the next few years and with a view to identifying priority joint research programmes.
This year’s focus will be on the three health-focused National Science Challenges – A Better Start, Healthier Lives and Ageing Well. The priority areas covered at the forum will be child obesity, diabetes, big data, cardiovascular disease, cancer, traditional medicine and brain science.
A Better Start’s Director, Professor Wayne Cutfield, will be joined by four members of the Challenge science leadership team at the forum, including:
- Professor Rachael Taylor will present on how we can improve healthy weight in children
- Associate Professor Barry Milne will discuss the value of population-level data for lifecourse research
- Professor Sarah Hetrick will talk about apps to support mental health of children and adolescents
- Tania Cargo will talk about digital interventions for youth mental health
Guest speakers Professor Michael Baker – a member of the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 Technical Advisory Group – and Professor Yu Wang, who is a former Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, will talk about non-communicable disease research during Covid-19.
Government agencies for New Zealand and China will talk about current and future Science and Technology Collaboration.
Researchers in the field of non-communicable disease are invited to join the forum, which will be held virtually between 1-4pm on Tuesday July 5 and 12.30-4.30pm on Wednesday July 6. Register here
The forum is hosted by The New Zealand-China Non-Communicable Diseases Research Collaboration Centre (NCD CRCC), MBIE and co-organised by China National Centre for Biotechnology Development (CNCBD), MoST.
